St. Gaspar watch over me!

The parish here in Whiting is undergoing some renovation. It is going to be beautiful when it is done. The picture is a detail from the arch over the sanctuary.

Looking forward to some more pictures. How inspiring to look up and see Gaspar doing one of his missions!

"It's going to look beautiful when it's done?" Looks great now! Question: the flowers and some of the detail: is it gold leaf? Looks great!

Whiting is 20 minutes from the Loop, right at the foot of the Skyway, so anyone in Chicago would have a very easy time of it coming to the mission.

Yes, it is gold leaf -- the mural on the arch is not visible to those in the sanctuary, so the "inspiration" can only distract those attending, rather than those giving the mission -- fortunately not much of a danger with this team (people were VERY impressed with the homilies, Fr. Keyes and Ms. Downs.)

And yes, Dismas, it does look wonderful now, even half finished, with the scaffolding up.
There is a good deal more gold leaf in the stenciling throughout the church, and the colors that have been chosen in the renovation are working miracles of enhancing what were already striking windows, as well as the mural.
