Hi Fr. Keyes!

After reading some entries of your blog, and seeing that you are all about liturgy =) I just wanted to get your insight on some projects I was planning on undertaking in regard to enhancing worship.

I recall this one joke- "what's the difference between a terrorist and a liturgist? A: You can negotiate w/ a terrorist"- and finally realize how and why that is funny, because now, the liturgy for me has to be done the "right" way. No questions asked- it's God's way or the highway.

And in conjunction with that, I have discovered that aside from the many ministries that are integral to the liturgy, the music ministry is perhaps the most crucial group to easily stray from the "right" way.

Right now the Graduale Romanum is defs the resource of the proper texts of the church BUT to Gregorian Chant melodies. And I say "but" in the sense that we now live in modern times where a lot (I didn't say all) of Catholics don't find that sound appealing, unfortunately. So my question is this- would it be proper, if someone were creative enough, to use those texts and write it to more modern melodies? (in a tasteful manner of course)In your perspective, if done properly, could it catalyze a new movement w/in the church or do you think Gregorian Chant is it and/or will ALWAYS be it?

Peace in Christ!
